N.Z. LIVED BEYOND INCOME LAST YEAR
Despite a rise in the value of exports of more than £.113,000,000 and a fall in imports of £7,000,000, New Zealand lived beyond her income during 1048 to the extent of more than £5,000,000 The summary of transactions under exchange control, issued by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, shows that receipts for the year ended December 31 amounted to £174,808,000, against £104,521,000 in 1047. Payments were £180,000,000, against £100,400,000 in 1947, leaving an adverse balance of £5,192,00, compared with a deficit of £25,948,000 in the previous year, when imports were nearly doubled.
