SUCCESSFUL PARISH FETE AT WAERENGA-A-HIKA
Perfect weather conditions heartened the organisers and favoured die patrons of the Waerenga-a-hika grlraen fete, held in ‘‘The Vicarage” grounds on Saturday afternoon. The satisfactory sum of £127 was realised.
Highlights of the day were Mr. Steele’s performing dogs. Almost uncanny in their sagacity these dogs fascinated both young and old. A baby show attracted entries from many fine young New Zealanders.
The flower show and stalls proved popular, and the usual energetio and optimistic folk thronged the sideshows. Afternoon tea arrangements were in the capable hands of Mesdames J. Brown. J. Gray, S. Davies. D. Cutnming, B. Buckland, V. Clarke, J. Tombleson, J. Kain and Misses J. Pilmer and J. Bull.
The work stall was staffed by Mesdames C. Long, A. Barrow, I. Barboure, J. Fade, P. Reynolds and J. Batcheldor, and the cake and sweet stall by. Mrs. J. Williams, R. Graham, W. Robson. J. Broad. T. Warrington and J. Livingston. In charge of the produce stall were Mesdamees P. Mann, A. Paulson. B. Burke, A. Mason, R. Watson and R. Tietjen. The jumble stall had been organised bv Mesdames J. Kain, H. Morice, R. Veitch, C. Long. Ice cream and soft drinks were dispensed by Mrs. I. Brown and Misses M. Orcig arid Beth Richardson. Mrs. C. Benson supervised the flower show and Miss R. Pilmer and Mrs. N. Song the competitions. Mrs. J. Donaldson was in charge of the baby show. Competition winners were:— Baby Show. —Robyn Lawson. 1; Timothy Talbot, 2; Elaine Morris. 3.
