Communists Will Try To Keep Morway Out Of The Union

LONDON, Mar. 4. A Communist, M. Strand Johansen, said: “We Communists will do all in our power to prevent Norway being driven into this dangerous Atlantic Union. The Atlantic Pact will comprise half the world. This was not anticipated in the United Nations Charter's reference to regional agreements.” Norway's decision to join the Atlantic Pact talks was one of decisive and historic importance, said British diplomatic quarters. They were struck by the implied warning that, if Norwegian security were to be plainly threatened military bases would bo afforded to the Western Powers.

At the same time, Norway had made it plain that the offer of bases would not follow simply from the decision to join the Atlantic Union. It is now taken for granted that Norway will join immediately in the last stage of the talks to complete the draft of the Atlantic Pact.
