NORWAY JOINS IN ATLANTIC PACT DISCUSSIONS
WASHINGTON, Mar. 4. Norway officially joined the negotiations for the Atlantic Pact today. At the invitation of other negotiators —the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg—the Norwegian Ambassador, M. Wilhelm Munthe de Morgenstierne, attended their meeting here. M. Morgenstierne said afterwards that the / other negotiators had given him a “very warm welcome." Other Ambassadors said that satisfactory progress had been made at today’s meeting. The next meeting will probably be held on Monday. Reuter’s correspondent says today’s meeting had before it a request from Italy to join the negotiators. It is known that Italy wishes to become a foundation member and desires to join the negotiators on the same terms as Norway. The Associated Press correspondent says that by entering the discussions Norway has virtually ended all possibility of the creation of a neutral Scandinavian defence alliance with Sweden and Denmark. Norway is not automatically commited to Join the Atlantic Pact by the mere fact of entering the discussions, but her adherence is regarded as practically certain since the Norwegian Government has been fully informed about, the main points.
