ANOTHER CONFERENCE DENIED BY MINISTER
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 4. The Minister of Labour, Mr. A. McLagan, today refuted a statement by the Secretary of the New Zealand Carpenters’ Union, Mr. R. Stanley, in Auckland that he (Mr. McLagan) had said that another conference between the union and employers was the only possible solution of the carpenters’ dispute. “I pointed out that Mr. Stanley’s suggestion of a conference could only be of any value if it was an indication that Mr. Stanley intended to abandon his present tactics and allow the dispute to be settled by reason, rather than by force,” said the Minister.
