VAN DRIVER SENT FOR TRIAL
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 10. Charged with negligently driving a motor van and thereby causing the death of Carole Anne Johnson, aged eight, Ernest Michael Sweet, aged 20, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court at Onehunga yesterday. He was committed -to the Supreme Court for trial.
The police read evidence to the effect that on the morning of November 29 two children were on the pedestrian crossing leading to the school. The defendant drove on to the crossing and the van struck one child who suffered a fracture of the skull and died on December 1. Bail was allowed.
