OFFER OF ALUMINIUM HOMES FOR N.Z.
SYDNEY (By Air Mail). Mr. R. V. Lloyd, a representative of A. W. Hawksley, Ltd., who arrived in Sydney by air from England recently, said that he would offer Commonwealth and State Government 5000 fac-tory-made homes a year. He said the houses are of aluminium and are fully roofed and equipped. No estimate of the Australian price could yet be given. Two of the houses had been bought by Imperial Chemical Industries of Australia and New Zealand Limited, and he would go to New Zealand in January to supervise their erection. He hoped to interest the New Zealand Government in the houses. The export drive, said Mr. Lloyd, did not mean that Britain’s housing problem had been overcome, for it remained acute. “It is an indication of how keenly Great Britain must concentrate on building up the export trade. You could say it is a case of houses for mutton,” added Mr. Lloyd.
