DELAY IN SUPPLY OF TELEPHONES EXPLAINED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. Dec. IG. There was no short cut whereby telephones could be given lo people one by one as construction work went on, said the Postmaster-General, Mr. F. Hackett, discussing the unsatisfied demand for telephones. He added that to supply telephones it was necessary to build complete exchanges and set. up whole reticulation systems. As exchanges were finished and reticulated they would give telephones to hundreds of people at a time, said the Minister. . .
There was no alternative to waiting until construction and reticulation were completed. They were all big jobs and that meant that it was going lo take time to overcome the present position.
