LICENSING POLL PREPARATIONS -MAY BE EARLY IN MARCH

( PiAi ) AUCKLAND, Dec. 15. Advice that, the gaming and licensing referendum might be lnld on March 2 or March 9 next year has been received hv Auckland returning officers from the Chief Electoral Officer, Wellington.

Returning’ officers are asked to make preliminary arrangements for polling places and clerks and to sec that lists of polling places are brought up to date where it is con sidered that adjustments should be made. Recommendations will be sent to Wellington.

The rolls to be used for the polls will be the same as those used at the last general election with the addition of another supplementary roll. It will contain the names of persons who have reached voting age since November, 1946, and those who have qualified through residential reasons. The circular letter does not' contain any advice about purging the rolls. Electorates which are constituted for the last general election will be used for the poll. Persons who do not vote in the constituency in which they are registered will be required to make po«ffil or absentee votes. .
