NEW BLOCK APPROVED FOR WAIROA D.H.S.
(S.R.)
NAPIER, Dec. 15.
Plans for a new block to be added to the Wairoa District High School have been approved by the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, which recognises the need for increased accommodation at the school.
The education Department has advised the board that a grant of £11,502 would be made to cover the cost of the work, which is to be undertaken next year . The project is part of the board’s long-term development scheme for the school.
Designed to house primary pupils, the new block is to be erected behind the main school building, and will contain three classrooms and a large general purposes room. It is also proposed to construct a second storey on the main buildings, which house the secondary department. This addition will contain a library and a teachers’ commonroom.
A contract for the work has been let, but it was stated at this week’s meeting of the board that a start was unlikely to be made for some months because of other items of constructional works on the contractor’s programme.
