DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA DRAWS BIG AUDIENCE

A large audience was at the Gisborne Opera House last night for the song and dance extravaganza given by the pupils of Miss Elva Mahoney, M.R.A.D. (London).

Brilliant costuming was a feature of the show, which gave an excellent insight into the various branches of dancing taught by Miss Mahoney. Solos and group work, operatic and national dances were all well-executed and combined to make the programme a memorable one.

Soloists included:—Barbara Graham, Gail Geddes, Elva and Greta Mahoney, Lesley Martin, Ngaire Foster, Marie Stenner, Margaret Goodyear, Barbara Mogford, Dawn Le Bas, Elaine Faulkner, Margaret Simpson Rae Mclntosh, Gaybrielle Nossiter, Freda Mogford, Mary McDonald, Loretta Ratclifle and Yvonne Howe.

Also dancing various combined numbers were:—Ruth Miller, Beverley Fisken, Isabella Atkins, Lesley Martin, Mary Shipp, Eleanor Jeffrey, Joyce Ball, Heather Aston, Jennifer Shaw, Helen Nalder, Jennifer Franks, Lynn Marshall, Ngaire Howe, Mavis Douglas, Julia Clare, Elizabeth Aston, Barbara Finucane, Shirley White, Lesley Buchanan, Jennifer Harding, Margaret Grey, Susan Dods, Fay Evans, Anne Taylor, Elizabeth Turnwald, Marion Walker, Anne Miller, Loama Frith, Gilian and Carol Nolan, Jennifer Harding. Alma Thompson. Marjorie Taylor, Judith Reed. Anne Miller, Iris Griggs, Ngaire Howe, Barbara Turnwald, Ruth Miller and David Howe.

Guest artists were Miss Jean Calder, vocalist, and Mr. Toni Bonica, with his piano accordian. At the conclusion of the programme, Miss Margaret Goodyear, on behalf of the pupils and parents, made a presentation to Miss Mahoney and Mrs. E. Esquilant, pianist, also made a presenation. Miss Mahoney replied with thanks to members of the audience and to those on stage. In turn gifts were made to Mrs. Esquilant by Miss Mahoney and also by the pupils. The house manager was Mr. W. Goodyear and Mr. T. Flannagan was the stage manager.
