INDIA’S RELATIONS
WITH COMMONWEALTH (10.30 a.m.) NEW DELHI, Dec. 12. The working committee of the National Congress Party passed a resolution declaring that the party would welcome India’s “free association” with independent nations of the Commonwealth.
The resolution:. “This will symbolise India’s independence and give her status among the nations of the world that is her rightful due. India desires to maintain all links with other countries as do not come in the way of her freedom of action and independence.” The resolution urged that the French and Portuguese possessions in India be politically incorporated in the Indian Union. “Congress trusts that this will be brought about by peaceful methods and friendly co-operation. The party expressed sympathy with “those who suffered by the policy of racial discrimination of the Government of the Union of South Africa.” The Prime Minister, Mr, Nehru, will pay an informal visit to Hyderabad State towards the end of December. He is expected to meet the Nizam, to address a public meeting and to broadcast over the Hyderabad radio.
