GOOD WISHES IN TOLAGA BAY TO DOCTOR AND WIFE

(Herald Correspondent.')

Evidence of the popularity of Dr. and Mrs. P. Kurzweil in the Tolaga Bay district was reflected in the farewell wishes extended to them at Tolaga Bay and Takapau. Reynold’s Hall, Tolaga Bay, was the venue of a large attendance _ of residents from all parts of the district on Thursday evening at a farewell social and dance. The gathering gave enthusiastic support to exnressions of appreciation of the services rendered by Dr. and Mrs. Kurzweil and hopes for their future welfare. A sprav of deep pink roses was present to Mrs. Kurzweil on. her arrival by Mrs. R. Craill.

Prior to the supper adjournment, Mr. H. R. Irving, chairman of the Uawa County Council, in presenting a cheque and a suitably-inscribed silver plate to Dr. Kurzweil, referred to the excellent services rendered by Dr. Kurzweil in his capacity as medical practitioner for the distret. It was largely due to the unremitting representations of the doctor that Tolaga Bay possessed a fine modern doctor’s residence equipped with a surgery containing the latest medical appliances, said Mr. Irving, who also mentioned the difficulties under which Dr. Kurzweil had practiced for the two years prior to his occupation of the new premises.

“In Mrs. Kurzweil,” said Mr. Irving, “we have had a very capable and conscientious representative on the Cook Hospital Board Her extensive experience in the nursing profession qualified her for that position. The district can ill afford to lose her services.” Mr. N. B. Smith, president of the Tolaga Bay Golf Club, said Dr. and Mrs. Kurzweil were highly-esteemed members of the club “Their departure,” said Mr. Smith, "will be a distinct loss to the club and to the whole district.” A tribute to Dr. Kurzweil as a member of the Tolaga Bay Bowling Club was voiced by Mr. L. G. Watson, president, who stated that his associations with the guest of the evening were not confined to the bowling green, but also to the golf links.

“Tn addition to his efforts in securing suitable amenities to conduct his practice, the residents of Tolaga Bay are aware of other difficulties encountered by the doctor during his sojourn in the district. ’ said Mr. Watson. “It is to his credit that despite handicaos he has carried on his good work. He has made an indelible impression by his ability and capacity at all times to serve the’community.”

Dr. and Mrs. Kurzweil suitably responded. A programme of dancing interspersed with vocal items terminated at midnight with the singing of “Auld Lang Svne.” The artists who contributed to the success of the occasion were Mrs. Joan O’Connor. Mrs. J. H. Meikle and Mr O. G. James, senr. Accompaniments were plaved by Mrs. Meikle and Miss Mary Meikle. Farewell at Takapau Residents of the Takapau district, Tolaga Bay, gathered in force in the Takapau school-room last Wednesday to farewell Dr. and Mrs. Kurzweil. An interesting programme of games, organised by Mesdames R. Craill, W. Mitchell and Mr. A. Cranswick, was enjoyed. Competitions for the best camel and the best giraffe torn from a sheet of newspaper, were won respectively by Mrs. Kurzweil and Mr. Ivan Craill.

Following supper Mr. F. J. McNab, on behalf of the residents of Takapau and adjoining districts, presented the guests of honour with a chromium and glass circular occasional table. Mr. McNab expressed the sincere regret felt in the impending departure from the district of such a popular and highlyqualified doctor and paid a tribute to his devotion to his patients. The spontaneous manner in which musical honours were then accorded vouched for the regard in which the guests of honour were held by the assemblage. Dr. Kurzweil suitably replied.
