NO SIGNS IN N.Z. OF ’FLU OUTBREAK

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 10. “There are no signs in New Zealand of an imminent and widespread outbreak of influenza, which appears to be feared in other countries.” said a Wellington doctor. Some medical authorities, he added; saw a possible tie-up between a certain type of influenza virus and some cases of poliomyelitis. In Auckland, he said, some doctors had noted this tie-up and it had been thought that the effect of the influenza virus might have been to lower the resistance to an attack of infantile paralysis. A form of influenza, it was stated, had been prevalent in New Zealand during the winter. It manifested itself in unexpected attacks of vomiting and a general feeling of upset for a day or so.
