SLOOP’S NEW ROLE

LONDON. Dec. 6. The sloop H.M.S. Wellington, which served on * a New Zealand station in the late ’thirties and was recommissioned at Wellington in 1937, has been bought by the Honourable Company of Master Mariners and converted to be-come-the company’s livery hall. She is to arrive from Chatham at Temple Stairs, Victoria Embankment, Lonuon, next Tuesday.

The ship is to serve as the headquarters for the company and as a meeting place for conferences on shipping matters. Space will be provided for a museum and library. It is the first time in the history of the City of London that a livery company has had its “hall" afloat.
