RUATORIA BASKETBALL TITLE RETAINED
(Herald Correspondent.) In the concluding series of the Ruatoria basketball competition High School (A) played a draw with High School (B), the latter thus lost the chance of a play-off with Hikurangi (A), who retain the premiership and the Richardson Cup. The cup is to be presented on September 11 when it is planned to conduct a tournament for the Hunter Cup open to sub-associations north of Gisborne. . The Waiapu Hockey sub-association will probably combine to make the repteams in Ruatoria representative of both hockey and basketball.. In addition to teams from Matakaoa, Ruatoria, and Tokomaru, two reserve A and B basketball teams from Poverty Bay are to take part and conclude the day with an exhibition match. The concluding series in the Ruatoria basketball competition resulted: High School (B) 5 v. High School (A) 5; Uepohatu w.o. Hikurangi (B); Hikurangi (A) 12 v. Tawhiorangi 3; Porourangi 10 v. City 7. Rep. games resulted: Ruatoria (A) 13 v. Matakaoa (A) 13. Ruatoria (B) 20 v. Matakaoa (B) 10. Championship points credited to club teams are: Hikurangi (A), 22; High School (B), 21; Uepohatu, 20; High School (A), 19; City, 11; Porourangi, 7; Tawhiorangi, 4; Hikurangi (B), 2.
