GLADIOLUS AND CHRYSANTHEMUM CLUB FORMED

Following a small meeting of enthusiasts last night, a Gladiolus and Chrysanthemum Club was formed under the auspices of the P.B. Horticultural Society. The policy of the society in forming various clubs in order that enthusiasts could meet and exchange information regarding the particular flower in which they were interested was outlined by the president of the society, Mr. F. Birkett. The need of stimulating interest in horticulture in general in Gisborne both in private homes and in public gardens was referred to by Mr. Birkett, while several other speakers also stressed the necessity of greater interest being taken in gardens in Gisborne. On the motion of Mr. W. Halbert, it was decided that the club be formed. A committee of seven, with power to add, was elected.

Those elected to the committee were: Mesdames R. Hickman, C. A. Kape, R. L. Cameron, Messrs. G. T. Maunder, W, Halbert. C. O. Hansen and F. Birkett.

At a subsequent meeting rtf the committee Mr. Maunder was elected chairman, and Mr. Halbert hon. secretarytreasurer.

A membership fee of 5s was fixed and it was decided that another general meeting of the club be held on Wednesday, August 4, when a lecture on the planting of gladiolus and the growing of chrysanthemums would be given.
