ROYAL VISIT TO DOMINION: PATRIOTIC DISPLAYS
A suggestion that the Cook County Council should co-operate in providing decorations for the occasion of the Royal visit to Auckland next March was received at yesterday's meeting of the council from the Auckland City Council.
The suggestion was that the county should provide a banner to be hung in Ihe Auckland streets, conveying a message of loyalty and welcome to Their Majesties and Princess Margaret. The cost was estimated at £l2-
Commenting on the proposal, the county chairman, Mr. E. H. Baker, said that there was a strong probability that the Royal party would visit Gisborne, and he was of opinion that the efforts of the council should be concentrated in this district.
This opinion was shared generally, and a motion embodying it was adopted. The clerk, Mr. R. K. Gardner, asked the council for some direction as to preparations which should be made for the Royal welcome to this district and, on the motion of Mr. R. Graham, the chairman and executive officers of the council were authorised to consult with other district local bodies as to supplies of materials likely to be required.
