LICENSE REFUSED FOR MATERIAL FOR SUMMER UNIFORM
HIGH SCHOOL DIFFICULTY
A license to import material for the new summer un’.rorr.i for girls attending the Gisborne High School has been refused by the Minister of Customs, Mr. W. Nash.
This was reported to the Gisborne High School Board of Governors at yesterday’s meeting by the rector, Mr. J. Leggat.
The refusal of the license was hard to understand, as, besides the desirability of a light uniform in such a climate as Gisborne’s, a, great advantage in the proposed uniform was its economy, said Mr. Leggat. "It is in no sense an additional luxury article. The girls have to be clothed and our proposal was to substitute a cheaper material for a dearer one,” stated the rector.
The Retailers’ Association was prepared to apply again with the support of the board, said Mr. Leggat, and on his recommendation it was decided that the board should give the association strong support.
