P.B. RUGBY SELECTION
Sir,—May I answer the letters of "Horatio” an cl "Rugby Fiend"? •Horatio” says none of the players mentioned by "Rugby Fiend” could be replaced. T can mention that from the push country Spence and O’Rourke, if given the same training as the town players, could take their place with nonours in any representative team. I resent the remark of "Rugby Fiend" that O'Rourke was a toiler in his day, as he is as young a man as cither McKinley or W. and E Carrington, and is p.uying as brilliant a game of football as any of the representatives. May tne Bay bring home the much-prized Ranturly Shield! KEEN FOLLOWER (This letter has had to be abridged.— Ed. Herald.) Sir.—lt has been very interesting to note the difference in the opinions of correspondents on the selection of the Poverty Bay representatives. The interest is no doubt due to the challenge by this union lor the Ranfurly Shield. I will not clash with the previous views on selection. We all have our ideas on the merit of players. We have two capable selectors in Messrs. Solomon and Gillespie, so let us leave the matter in their hands. Last scaso n they proved their ability to pick the best team. We all know the team’s record —seven games, seven wins. As for this season—to date the representative leam has shaped very well i even taking into account its defeat by ! Bay of Plenty last Saturday. The team’s win against Wairoa (Wairoa’s strongest side for years) was lull of merit. No team can win all the time; j Otago found that out last year. | All Rugby followers, I know, wish 1 our representatives the best of luck in 1 their forthcoming bid for the Rantj furly Shield. 5 SEASON TICKET.
