SUBSCRIPTIONS RISE IN JERSEY CATTLE CLUB

“Although the balance sheet discloses a considerable excess of expenditure over income, which state of affairs cannot go on indefinitely, the club has had a very active year and has operated to the benefit of all members,” stated the report of the P.B. Jersey Cattle club adopted by members at their annual meeting on Friday evening.

The financial statement showed that the accumulated fund had been reduced by £56, leaving the club’s assets, after deducing all liabilities, at £76. The deficiency on the bull sale amounted to £7 12s 7d and that on the second Jersey oaks £ll 11s. There was a division of opinion on the notice of motion calling for an increase in the subscription rate, but it was carried finally with one dissenting voice. The effect of the notice of motion was that the subscription be raised from 10s to £1 Is and that additional members in the one family and working the one farm should subscribe at the rate of 10s 6d. Two further notices of motion were given to be put to the next general meeting of the club. The first was that inactive members, those with only one or two stud animals, should be accepted as members on the payment of a subscription of 10s b'd. The other concerned the inclusion of Wairoa in the club’s district.

Officers For The Year

There were nine nominations for the seven vacancies on the executive and a ballot was conducted. The election of officers resulted:—President, Mr. S. S. Spence; vice-president, Mr. T. A. N. Corson; committee, Messrs. J. T. Herbert, H. S. Rickard. R. N. King, C. H. Cooper, A. Covell, C. McGrannachan and R. A. Atkins; P.B. Agricultural and Pastoral Association representative, Mr. Herbert. It was decided to apply for October 7 as the bull sale date for this year. There was a lengthy discussion on the Spring Show schedule and certain recommendations will be made to the P.B. Agricultural and Pastoral Association as a result. A demonstration will be conducted this year at a date to be fixed on the property of Mr. S. S. Spence. An official demonstrator will be invited to attend.

It was learned that clubs of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association had offered donations of hay and cash for the relief of flood sufferers among the members of the club in Gisborne. Messrs. Herbert, Cooper and Spence were appointed as a subcommittee to distribute the relief gifts.
