ONE-HOUR GENERAL STRIKE HELD IN FRANCE
(10.45 a.m.)
PARIS, June 20.
A one-hour general strike called by the Communist-dominated General Confederation of Labour was held throughout France today. Striking electricians in Paris cut off the power to ensure that the underground railway would stop, as the drivers had declared against the strike. Strikers smashed bottles on the heads of mobile guards and police in a violent clash outside the City Hall. Passengers and underground employees exchanged blows at one underground station, where employees locked in passengers on the station.
Strikers at Clermont-Ferrand have decided to return to work tomorrow.
