SURPRISE CHOICE FOR ENGLAND’S TEST TEAM
(10 a.m.) LONDON, June 20. The English team for the second test against Australia, commencing at Lords on June 24, will be selected from the following 13: — Yardley (captain), Edrich, ITardstaff, ITutton, Compton, Washbrook, Dollery, Bedser, Wright, Evans, Laker, J. Young and Coxon-
Of the 13 only Coxon has not played before for England. Dollery played against South Africa in the first test in 1947. Coxon. who is a fast bowler, has been showing fine all-round form this season. He has taken 32 wickets •and scored 363 runs.
Dollery has scored 936 runs, including two centuries this season. The Australian Associated Press correspondent with the Australian team says that Coxon is a surprise sslection. He has apparently been chosen as a new-ball bowler to rest Edrich but he is considerably slower than jcancn. Dollery is a very sound right-hand batsman who is at his best on a turning wicket,
It is probable that the final cnoice for twelfth man lies between him and Hardstaff. Laker’s inclusion in the team seems to depend on Wright’s fitness.
It was announced today that Wright has recovered from the attack of lumbago which kept him out of the first: test.
