BRIGHTENING UP PARLIAMENT FOR COMING SESSION
(S.R,) WELLINGTON, June 5. The principal lobby of Parliament Building, the meeting-place of members of both Houses, is in the decorators’ hands. It has not received attention of this kind since it was first used for the session of 1919, and has become extremely dingy. The original carpet is being retained, thought it will be> patched where traffic has been heavy. In the House of Representatives a new carpet has greatly improved its appearance, The dignity of the legislative chamber will now be restored, because patched carpets and well worn bare patches had been tolerated for some years.
Plans for the brightening up of the long corridors have also been made, but the English carpets needed are not in the country and this work therefore will have to be delayed until after the coming session.
