MIGRANTS FROM U.S.
' USE OF MARINE PHOENIX ■ CANBERRA April 24. In an effort to maintain the flow of American migrants the Commonwealth Government will submit a proposal to the Matson Line to keep the Marine Phoenix on the Pacific run. This is expected to be in the form of methods to ease the company’s costs while the vessel is in Australian waters. The Government is not prepared to subsidise the vessel because of the dollars involved. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. B. Chifley, said today that shipping and Treasury officials were now examining a proposal which would be made to the owners before the vessel was taken off the run.
