SHOPS SHOULD OPEN
VIEW OF GROCERS’ LEADER (P.A.) NAPIER. April 23. “We feel that Anzac Day should be observed on the day as one of sacred remembrance," said Mr .A. A. Kelly, president of the New Zealand Federation of Master Grocers, this morning. “The provision in our employees’ award for closing on Monday when Anzac Day falls on Sunday is directly opposed to public sentiment and I think wrong,” he said. A decision about the action to be taken, he said, was left to associations in individual districts, but he had recommended all associations to open on Monday next. All grocers’ shops in the Hawke’s Bay district will open on Monday ar.d employees will receive an extra day on annual leave to compensate for the holiday which is compulsory under the award.
