WAIKOHU HELP
FOOD FOR BRITAIN £9SO IN TWO YEARS The Waikohu Food-for-Britain Committee, which will be holding its annual meeting on Tuesday, has since the inception of the scheme two years ago sent approximately £950 worth of foodstufls to the British people. The committee has aimed each month at sending £SO worth of goods. Although at times there have been delays due to shipping difficulties, this aim has been steadily maintained. The committee's thanks are due particularly to Mr. I. J. Quigley for his assistance in transport of the goods. A particularly pleasing feature of the scheme has been the economy with which it has been possible to handle the funds. Freight charges to England have been borne by the British Government. There have been no administrative charges whatever on the funds subscribed, any cdsts arising being borne by members of the committee. The committee has kept closely in touch, through overseas visitors and by correspondence, with the actual requirements of the British people. The letters received from grateful recipients have given ample testimony to the good services the people of the Waikohu County are thus rendering. When the scheme was first inaugurated the necessity of continuing it over such a long period was not foreseen. However, the public is well aware of the continued need for community effort and the committee looks forward with confidence to maintaining and if possible extending the scheme in the future. The Mayor, Mr. N. H. Bull, will broadcast on the subject of aid to Britain on Monday evening. The address will be given from station 2ZJ at 7.30 o'clock.
