600 CASES OF FOOD
EAST COAST EFFORT DISPATCH TO ENGLAND "Since July last year the East Coast has been responsible for sending 600 cases of food to England,” said the Rev. W. Bird, speaking to- members of the Gisborne Junior Chamber of Commerce at, a recent meeting. Mr. Bird outlined the food-for-Britain campaign being conducted on the East Coast and stated that when the food was received in England it was distributed by a food committee, which functioned in all English towns. The priority of the distribution _of parcels was first to the aged and sick, then to children, and, thirdly, to poor people. In thanking the speaker for his address, Mr. H. Salmon pointed out that the Gisborne and East Coast districts had every reason to be proud of their efforts to send food parcels to Britain. It was only through the keenness and energy of such men as Mr. Bird that these efforts had been possible.
