FIRST ROCKET TESTS
AUSTRALIAN RANGE THREE YEARS AHEAD (10 a-m.) CANBERRA, April 22. The first experimental rocket missile will probably be fired on the Central Australian weapons range in about three years. The rocket range programme, which was reviewed at a meeting of the Australian Defence Council, is believed to have this as its objective. _ The Ministers said that the range site was only a wilderness 12 months ago, but that already five miles of railway had been laid, a 6000 ft. airstrip had been constructed and another was well under way. Work on a village for men employed on the site had r.ot been as quick, but the army and air force construction workers had done well.
