FIELD GOAL POINTS
WELLINGTON DECISION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 21. The alteration in the rules of Rugby reducing the noints for a field goal from four to three points is to operate in Wellington as from the opening of the competition games on Saturday. This was decided at last night’s meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union. Referees are to be advised accordingly. The referees’ representative, Mr. J. A. Wilson, said the referees had already been advised to act accordingly. Otherwise, the position might occur where, if an official instruction were awaited from the New Zealand union, a match could be won by a potted goal one week and yet only drawn the next. It was decided to nominate Mr. A. J. McDonald as a North Island and New Zealand selector. An appeal was made to former players to take up refereeing as with the increased number of teams in Wellington this season and the loss of referees through transfer and other factors there is an urgent need for more referees.
