DOWN ONE POINT
RUGBY FIELD GOAL NEW LAW TO OPERATE VALUE IN P.B. GAMES Commencing: this week Rugby field goals registered in the district will count as three points instead of four as formerly, telegraphed advice that the new value operates immediately having been received by the P.B. Rugby Union from the N.Z. Union. "Yes—potted goal three points now in force,” states the message received from the N.Z. union in reply to the inquiry made as a result of the discussion by the P.B. union management committee on Monday when instructions dated April 14 were tabled concerning the recent amendments to the laws of the game governing the method of scoring and the scrummage. The alterations were agreed upon by the Rugby International Board following the discussions at the recent Imperial conference in London and the communication before the P.B. union on Monday indicated that the new condition relating to the scrummage would not be brought into force until the receipt officially of the full text of the amendment, but that—as now clarified —the reduction of the points for a field goal from four to three would operate immediately. On this authority the P.B. union, in common with others affiliated with the N.Z. union, will officially record three points for a field goal commencing with the games of this week and notification is being forwarded to the referees' association and to sub-unions.
