TWO BIG MINES IDLE
V/EST COAST STOPPAGE UNION MEMBER’S DEATH (P.A.) GREYMOUTH, March 11. The Liverpool and Strongman State coal mines will be idle until Monday because of the sudden death yesterday on his way to work at the Liverpool mine of Mr. William Robertson, a member of the Runanga State Miners' Union, of which the employees at both the Liverpool and Strongman mines are members. The Strongman mine has been idle since Tuesday, a dispute causing the loss of two days, and the mine will have lost four days if work is resumed on Monday. The Liverpool mine was idle yesterday because of the death of Mr. Robertson, and will have been idle three days by .the time work is resumed on Monday. These are the two biggest producers of coal in the district, and the loss to the country will be considerable, approaching 1700 tons. The present indications are that the Strongman mine » will resume on Monday, but it is understood that the dispute which stopped work at the mine on Tuesday and Wednesday has not yet been settled.
