ARGENTINA’S HIGH GRAIN SALES PROFITS
WASHINGTON, March 12. The special House of Representatives Committee on foreign aid today accused Argentina of charging needy European nations exorbitant prices for grain and demanded a firm United States trade policy toward the Argentine. In a report on the extent to which Latin America might participate in the European recovery programme, the committee said: “The Argentine Government prides itself on its capacity for hard bargaining. It has repeatedly indicated its lack of interest in sharing in the task of working out h solution to Europe's economic problems.” The report added that the high prices paid to the Argentine had been a major drain upon European resources, a drain which cannot properly be assumed by the United States Treasury.”
