SPEED BOAT EVENT (P.AJ BLENHEIM, March 15. The powerful Picton-built boat Redhead, 1000 horse-power, owned by L. Southwood, Evans Bay, Wellington, won the New Zealand open speedboat championship on Picton harbour on Saturday afternoon. She covered the course of 21 miles at. an average of 05.5 miles an hour, a record for the race. The fastest lap was 07.5 miles an hour. The holder of the title, Pelorus Jack, Picton, 320 horse-power, put up a game showing but had to give way to the newer vessel and her superior power. The race was run in a gusty wind on a choppy sea. The other competitors, Atom 111 and Miss Wairarapa, withdrew after being lapped by* the two leaders.
