WOMEN’S RESERVE

WIDE RANGE OF TOPICS A well-attended meeting of the Women's National Reserve was held recently in the Parish Hall. An account of the different branches’ work in Wellington for the upkeep of the residential nursery in Owen street was summarised by the president. The largest sum, £435, was raised by the Lyall Bay branch.

Mrs. Hewetson, delegate to the National Council of Women, gave an interesting account of the last meeting.

A discussion on immigration brought up reference to Ihe Christchurch proposal for handing a short questionnaire to each new settler on arrival in New Zealand, one question proposed to be included to ask the names of organisations belonged to at home as it felt that new arrivals could be invited to meetings of the National Council of women and there contact societies belonged to in Great Britain. The subject of cruelty f o children, which has been deliberated for some time by the reserve, was referred to, members being notified that headquarters were waiting for a copy of the Children's Bill from Great Britain, which it was thought would be of great assistance in New Zealand. An interesting article by Renee Stockwell on a home for delinquent girls, where the primary emphasis was laid on kindly reform, was ready by the president. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. C. Willson.
