DAY DRAWS NEAR

SERVICE FOR WAIROA | VETERINARY EXTENSION Tlic day when a fully established veterinary service commences in Wairoa draws near. The provision of those services in the district has long been recognised by practical farmers as a most necessary step in the progress ot the district to reduce losses by disease or accident. To avoid the heavy capital expenditure required to form an independent club the interim committee, appointed by a representative Wairon meeting on September 2i>, 1941>. decided upon an amalgamation with the Gisborne Vet urinary Club. The interim committee has been besieged with inquiries from farmers throughout the district asking just when the service will be available. The long period of watting is corning to an end and the interim committee is about to hand over its burden and the control of veterinary matters to a regu larl.v appointed district committee, On March US farmers of the district, together with stock breeders, drovers, sporting dog owners, owners of racehorses and hunters, will meet at the Wairoa County chambers to appoint their district committee. Voting will be on a riding basis, that is, each riding of the county will have one representative on the committee. From the committee elected, the chairman, vice-chairman and one other member will form the Wairoa representation on the central executive of the Gisborne Veterinary Club, which has since been strengthened by the addition of the East Coast district. All districts will bo on an equal basis as regards representation.
