AUSTRALIAN DEMAND WILENCOTE SELECTION The interest aroused in New Zealand Hereford blood in Australian breeding circles was well exemplified when, after the 1947 Royal Show at Hastings, a selection of New Zealand cattle was made by the Royal Show judge, Mr. J. S. Sparkes. Mr. Sparkes’ selection of young cattle from the Wilcncote Stud, conducted by Mr. F. E- Humphreys, left Gisborne recently under charge _of Messrs. Dalgely and Company, Limited. for shipment to Mr. Sparkes’ huge stud at Lyndley, Dalby, Queensland. The consignment comprised two bull calves, three 18-month bulls, and one 31-year in-calf heifer.
' The bull calves are outstanding young animals by the Royal champion Bosun Gem. One of the 18-month bulls is by Bonny Gem 11, which was sold to a Tasmanian buyer as a yearling; and the other bulls are by Acton 58th. bred by Mr. H. W. Barker and purchased by Mr. Humphreys to be added to his stud. The in-calf heifer is also by Acton 58th, and is a full sister to (lie cow which won the three-year-old class at the 19-17 Royal Show at Hastings.
