OUTSIZE FIELDS

SCHOOLBOY RUNNERS FORTY-EIGHT IN 880 YDS. FLOODLIGHT SPORTS The inclusion of nine leading juniors of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic Club with the team representing the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay centre in the Dominion junior championships in Auckland today and tomorrow reduced the fields in the principal events at the weekly floodlight sports on the Childers Hoard Reserve last evening, hut schoolboy contests drew the largest entries of the season in the under 15 division. The field of 48 post entries in the boys’ 880vds was probably a record for the ground. Thirty-eight were stilL running with half the distance completed and 22 completed the full journey. Handicaps ranged up to 180yds, but the winner was one of the few whq started from scratch. Another outsize field appeared for the under 15 relay of 440vds. the. teams, each of four runners, numbering 11. Consistent Performers

In the open events the consistent performer, R. Gear, took first place in the 75yds dash, besides winning both the hammer throw and discus throw. An* other very regular contender, the rider, G. Sutton, was first past the judges in each of the three cycling events of the evening.

Appreciation of the increasing public support was voiced through the public address system by the club president, Mr. F. W. Dobbie, who also expressed the hope that the club championship being held on Thursday and Saturday of next week, with the added attraction on the Saturday of inter-house marching by teams of Gisborne and Wairoa girls, would draw an assembly of record dimensions.
