ACTION DISLIKED
FEDERATION CRITICISED LABOUR. CONSTITUTION (P.A.) ' WELLINGTON, Feb. 26. Disproval of the action of the tu tional council of the New Zealand Federation of Labour in respect of its decisions an the proposed amendments to the federation’s constitution was "K pressed at a meeting last night of the Wellington Trades Council. Should 'his policy be permitted to continue,” stated the resolution, "it may result in wrecking the industrial movement and the loss of conditions it has built up over the years." It was detided by an overwhelming majority that (1) the action of (he national council was in conflict with the democratic practice of the labour novement and the federation's constitution; (2) it usurped the function of ‘he annual conference, which was
supreme authority (3) it was contrary to 'he decision of the 1947 conference, which approved of the setting up of a committee to propose amendments to 'lie constitution by 140 votes to 46.
The national council last week decided to circularise all affiliated unions and trades councils urgently requesting 'hat they should bo represented at '.lie next annual conference and that the delegates should be recommended '.o oppose the new constitution.
