DETERMINED TO REACH N.Z.

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 26. A N example of determination to reach New Zealand, despite obstacles, was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Baxter, who arrived at Wellington by the Arawa yesterday. In May, 1946, Mr. Baxter, a discharged soldier, arranged later passages for his family and set off for New Zealand by air. He reached Persia, from where he worked his way on a Swedish cargo ship to Australia. Nobody on the ship spoke English and his diet mainly consisted of raw salt herrings.

In Australia he communicated with the director of employment in %w Zealand and received four offers of employment as a cable ioincr.

In the meantime Mrs. Baxter and family had reached Australia and 'h» fanvlv came on together.
