TRADE RESUMPTION
ARGENTINE PLAN SHIPMENTS TO BRITAIN IMPORT BAN EASED BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 18. The Argentine Government announced today three important steps towards restoring normality to foreign trade, which was disrupted when Britain suspended sterling convertibility on August 20: 1- Canned meat shipments to Britain will be resumed. 2. The Centra] Bank has further eased the total embargo on imports imposed on August 21 and has authorised foreign exchange allotments for a wide list of imports3. The Central Bank has divided world countries into two groups for_ the purposes of the import regulations.
Group one includes the French and Belgian franc and peseta countries, as well as Latin American countries, imports from which will continue to be subject to restrictions and approval only after individual consideration.
The economic “Czar,” Miguel Miranda, in announcing the resumption of canned meat shipments to Britain, said other Anglo-Argentine financial and economic problems might be solved as a result of negotiations now proceeding.
