MORE TWINS ABOUT
DISTRICT LAMBING HIGH PERCENTAGES Lambing in general throughout the Gisborne flats and the low country goes on apace and although the weather has occasioned anxiety on the part of farmers during the past week, they have come through without any serious losses and are looking forward to high percentages when docking is completed. Interviewed by a Herald staff reporter, Mr. J. Atkins, Patutahi, said on Saturday that there had been more twins during the past two weeks than ever before at a lambing in his knowledge. At the start of the season the majority of the lambs were singles. In two days on his property this week 80 per cent, of the lambs were twins. Another Patutahi farmer has had a 130 per cent lambing to date with more ewes yet to lamb. It appeared that there were very few dry lambs about this season. Farmers have reported that the bearing trouble has still been persisting. The drenching, cold rain last Monday caused some losses among ■ the young lambs in the flocks, but those losses did not assume serious proportions. Although the weather was cold in the latter part of the week little trouble of that sort was encountered. A Hawke’s Bay report states that losses in the cold weather in that district have not been unduly heavy.
