CHILDREN GATHER

FESTIVAL OPENS COMPETITIONS SERIES MORNING RECALLS The Gisborne Opera House presented an animated scene this morning when youthful performers gathered from many parts of the North Island to display their talents at the opening of the Gisborne Competitions Society's twenty-ninth annual festival. The attendance this morning comprised mainly children, but it was well up on the number present on the opening day last year. Entries in all sections of the "competitions were good, the total being higher than last year. Proof of the large number of classes which had to be heard was the fact that in addition to the Opera House, the Majestic Theatre and the Cosmopolitan Club rooms were being used this morning for several classes. Both places will be used at intervals throuchout the week to relieve the congestion at the Opera House. The three outside judges arrived at Gisborne over the week-end. They are Mr. Hamilton Dickson.
