BIG LOSS TO BRITAIN

PREFERENCE CONCESSIONS TRADE NEGOTIATIONS LONDON, Aug. 8. The Times correspondent in Geneva, discussing trade negotiations, says it is only now beginning to be possible for the United kingdom to estimate the preferences that will be lost in the Dominions as a result of concessions which the Dominions will receive in the tariffs of other countries. This loss is said to be already subslantial, while the United Kingdom has obtained very little from foreign countries to compensate for the loss. At the same time, it is part of the United Kingdom’s policy that American tariff reductions would well repay the loss of preferences in the Dominions, especially if they are accompanied by measures under the charter that would lead to a general expansion of world trade.
