GISBORNE VEGETABLES Heavy supplies of ail lines of vegetables were received on the market in Gisborne during the past week, according to a statement this w » k from Gisborne Markets, Ltd. Cabbages, cauliflowers, celery, kumaras and pumpkins were in over-supply. Leeks, carrots, parsnips and cucumbers were in slow demand. Tomatoes firmed and good lines were keenly sought. The first tree tomatoes sold well and passion-fruit were steady. There was a good demand for walnuts. Prices: Beetroot, Is 6d to 2s per doz.: bea'ns, 4d per lb; cabbage. Is to 4s per sack: carrots, 8s to 10s per cwt.: cauliflower, Is to 15s per sack; celery, 2s 6d to 8s per case; kumaras, 14s to 26s 3d per cwt.; leeks, Is to 2s 6d per dozen; marrows, 2s to 3s per dozen; spinach, 2s to 2s 6d per dozen; swedes, 8s 6d per cwt.; rhubarb, Is to 4s per dozen: silver beet. Is to 2s per dozen; pumpkin, £3 to £lO per ton; parsnip, 10s to 14s per sack: lettuce. 5s per case; pie melon, Id per lb: walnuts, ceiling: tomatoes, best 8d to lOd per lb, others 2d to 3d per lb; passion-fruit. Is fid per dozen: persimmons, 5s to 10s ner case; Chinese gooseberries. Od to lOd per lb; feijoas, 6d to 8c! per lb.
