CITY MARKET RATES WELLINGTON SURPRISE 'flic surprise o!' the week on the Wellington fruit aiuf produce market was the extremely large supply of tomatoes available at this time of the year, ac cording to the weekly report of Messrs Townsend and Paul. Lim.ted. fruit and produce merchants. In many instances the quality was poor and values were affected accordingly. Some isolated consignments of peaches were also to hand. Passionfruit f;gs. persimmons and Chinese gooseberries were all sought and good sales existed for feijoas, quinces and Cape gooseberries. Increased consignments of flowers are now coming lo hand, chrysanthemums. violets and asters being popular varieties. Most varieties of vegetables have been available, although beans and peas, now in smaller quantities, advanced in value. Kurnevas, lettuce, pumpkins, swedes and parsnips were in demand.
