DECOR AND COSTUMING

Interest, will surely focus during the Gisborne Repertory Society’s performance of "While the Sun Shines” on the frock worn by Cushla McConnell during her appearances as she is the only member of the cast who will not be seen in uniform. For her characterisation of Mabel Crum she has chosen a cocktail gown in an emerald green shade with cap sleeves and goid studded belt and peplum effect. It will be in effective contrast to the Waaf uniform worn by Elizabeth, the duke’s daughter, played by Mrs. Joyce Gandell. The nobility is represented in the play. Dr. C. W. Isaac playing the part of a somewhat peppery duke at army headquarters. Mr. E. Stenner will portray the earl, who is a Royal Navy rating, and Mr. A. Silvester brings an American note into the picture in his uniform of a member of the United States Army Air Force. There is also in this somewhat cosmopolitan group a wearer of the uniform of the Free French Navy, Mr. T. Fairweather, who appears as Colbert. Mr. G. Burns, the earl’s butler, wears the traditional manservant’s suit. These uniforms should make a colourful setting and will be seen against the background of an carl’s chambers in London. No pains are being spared with the stage decor and the action of the play takes place in a typical, wellfurnished bachelor's apartment. k
