BITTER ATTACK
N.Z. LABOUR RULE “RUINED ITS CREDIT” CANADIAN’S OUTBURST MONTREAL, April 23. The New Zealand and Australian Labour Governments were deplored by Mr. William Massey Birks, in an address to the Montreal Board of Trades 125th anniversary meeting. Mr. Birks, who is the board’s chairman and a prominent figure in Canada's trade and financial circles, declared: “New Zealand has a glorious climate, scenery, spoil and fine people, but it is cursed with a Socialist Government that has ruined its credit on the. London market. What fools these theorists be. All New Zealand lacks is a sane old province like Quebec.” Mr. Birks added that Australia was also in a mess with socialism and communism and had to bring a banking commission out from London to save it from bankruptcy.
