CITY’S WAR ON RATS
VAST DAMAGE CAUSED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 24. Rats in 10 years have cost Auckland £3,000,000 in damage, according to the City Council. From Monday there will be a “rat blitz.” One million poisoned baits arc being prepared by tbe council’s sanitary department for a lightning drive against the huge rodent population. Next week’s “pied piper” will be the chief sanitary inspector, Mr. C. F. Faull, who hopes to lure thousands to destruction. He will be understudied by the “rat officer” whose duty it has been to catch rats for bacteriological examination. Six thousand live hundred rats has been his average annual “bag.”-
