BLOOM DISPLAY

GARDENING CIRCLE RANGE OF EXHIBITS An excellent display of blooms was on display on Wednesday when the P. 3. Gardening Circle's chrysanthemum show was held in the Parish Hall in aid of the building fund for the new Heni Materoa Children’s Home. The entries in all sections were excellent, especially in view of the recent unfavourable weather, and aroused considerable interest amongst flower lovers. Apart from the exhibits in the various classes, which covered a wide range, there was a most interesting display of chrysanthemums which had been arranged bv Messrs. R. Stephens, W. Stubbings "and Gault and which was viewed with interest. Mrs. R. P. Baigcnt. president of the P.B. Gardening Circle, called upon Mrs, H. G. Wellborne, chairman of the Cook County Women’s Guild, to officially open the show. Mrs. Wellborne described the need for the new home and thanked all members of the gardening circle, exhibitors and others who had made the show such a successfu 1 one. She presented the trophies and special prizes to the winning exhibitors, and was herself the recipient of a floral spray. Calcott judged the chrysanthemums, Mr. G. T. Maunder adjudicated for the cut flowers, and Mr. W. D. Cook judged the shrubs. The stewards were Mesdames F. Wiliams, R. Stephens, and J. Hanes, cut flowers, and Mrs. L. F. Williams, decorative. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. F. Wickens and many willing heloers. and a vegetable stall under the charge of Mrs. J. Kape did good business.
